The 2023 Cunard British Film Festival presented by Palace cinemas showcases the finest British filmmaking, production and acting to Australia.
Now on until November 29, the festival features the acting talents of Britain’s most enduring and well-known faces, including Sir Anthony Hopkins, Timothy Spall, Olivia Colman, Sir Ian McKellen, Helen Mirren and more.
Highlights include One Life, starring Sir Anthony Hopkins, and The Critic, a wickedly mischievous reimagining of Anthony Quinn's novel Curtain Call, featuring a stellar cast led by Sir Ian McKellen and Gemma Arterton.
Independent film maker Markus Markou, director of The Wife and Her House Husband will be visiting Sydney and Melbourne for a series of Q&A sessions.
I'm looking forward to watching at least some of the other excellent films, such as Dance First, with Gabriel Byrne as Samuel Beckett, Helen Mirren as prime minister Golda Meir in Golda and Mad About the Boy, the life story of Noel Coward told in his own words and music.
I'd also love to watch one of my favourite films, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, first shown in 1969 and starring the wonderful Dame Maggie Smith.
